The city of San Marcos is welcoming a new director of finance Aug. 1.
Interim City Manager Stephanie Reyes chose Jonathan Locke from a nationwide pool of 15 applicants, according to a city news release.
“I am excited to be part of such a growing, dynamic, and diverse community,” Locke said in the announcement of his hiring. “I am honored to join an incredible team and serve the residents of San Marcos.”
For more than seven years, Locke was the executive director of finance for the City of Killeen. He has 18 years of financial leadership experience, including being city treasurer in the city of Big Rapids, Michigan, and as assistant director at Perry County Job & Family Services in Ohio.
Locke has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration from Franklin University in Ohio. According to the release, Locke is a licensed certified public accountant and a certified government finance officer. He is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association of Texas, newly elected to the Board of Directors as the central representative, and serves on the Governmental Affairs Committee.
Reyes said in the announcement that the city is excited for Locke to join the team.
“He will bring his strong financial management expertise and experience to our Finance Department,” she said. “We’re confident he’ll be a strong asset to the City and community as a whole.”
